How does it work? With each green phone purchase, the electricity required to charge phone will be offset with new, clean, renewable energy. To put this simple decision in perspective, it's as though you planted 8 trees or decided to not drive your car to work for a whole week (based on average commuting distance of 16 miles each way).
The carbon offset products come from the highest quality projects. When people purchase a "green" cell phone through an affiliated website, a portion of their purchases are used in one of three ways:
- To buy renewable energy credits (RECs) from solar, wind and biomass facilities around the country.
- To fund reforestation projects through our partnership with organizations like the Arbor Day Foundation, American Forests and Pacific Forest Trust.
- To support other carbon offset projects - for example, methane capture and grassland restoration projects certified by the Volunteer Carbon Standard.
If everyone greened their cell phones, it would be like taking over 2,500,000 cars off the road or like planting more than 2 billion trees or like recycling almost 90 billion aluminum cans or recycling over 7 million tons of newspaper or, well...you get the idea.
