ABOUT MOBILE MESSAGE

Mobile allows for content to be sent out to members anytime, anywhere. For people that may not be familiar with mobile messaging, the various terms and abbreviations used may get confusing. We've put together a list of common terms along with a simple definition of each.

Mobile Communications Terms:

  • SMS (Short Messaging Service): This is most commonly referred to as text messaging. It's the ability to send text-based messages person to person; from person to application, such as a member survey application; or application to person, as with an auto responder - such as a confirmation that information has been received..

  • MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service): This allows sending messages that include multimedia objects including images, audio, video and/or rich text and not just text.

  • WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) : WAP is simply the wireless web.

  • CSC (Common Short Code): CSC's are five or six digit numeric codes to which text messages can be sent from a mobile phone.
